Here you will find information on current construction sites and traffic obstructions. This overview includes only road closures that have a significant impact on traffic.
The list is updated regularly. Unless otherwise noted, you can pass the construction sites on foot or by bike.

Erfurter Straße at the Mühltal intersection

  • Type: One-way closure
  • Duration: through August 11
  • Details: Traffic will be controlled by construction zone traffic lights during the construction work. Road users are asked to follow the posted signs.

  • Work on the power lines has been completed

August-Bebel-Straße from house number 27 A to Botzstraße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: From house number 27 A to Botzstraße
  • Reason: Major road construction requiring a full closure
  • Details: Pedestrians can safely pass through the construction site. A detour for through traffic will be signposted.

Station forecourt in Göschwitz

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: Through August 31, 2026
  • Reason: Major renovation of the entire area
  • Details: Pedestrians can safely pass through the construction site toward the Göschwitz train station.

Bernhard-Schultze-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through October 2, 2026
  • Reason: Major renovation

Federal Highway 7

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: House number 7
  • Duration: through August 14, 2026
  • Reason: Resurfacing of the road

Burgauer Weg

  • Type: One-way closure
  • Location: Between Mühlenstraße and the SteinMalEins All-Day School
  • Duration: until approximately early October
  • Reason: Utility line construction
  • Details: Parking spaces at the school will be available on a limited basis during construction. A temporary lane for local traffic is planned for this phase of construction.

Carl-Zeiß-Platz

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Renovation and new construction of the German Optical Museum

Dornburger Straße 6

  • Type: One-way closure toward the city center
  • Location: No. 6
  • Duration: until approximately the end of October 2026
  • Reason: New construction of the building on Dornburger Str
  • Details: Outbound traffic will be rerouted via Spitzweidenweg and Nollendorfer Straße.

Eugen-Diederichs-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: until August 14, 2026
  • Reason: Fiber-optic work in the Eugen-Diederichs-Straße area
  • Details: During the first construction phase, the street will be closed from Löbichauer Straße to Julius-Schaxel-Straße. In the second construction phase, work will then be carried out from Julius-Schaxel-Straße to the area of Berthold-Delbrück-Straße. A detour will be signposted via Löbichauer Straße, Karl-Liebknecht-Straße, and Am Steinborn.

Forstweg Bridge Fully Closed

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through Dec. 20, 2026
  • Reason: Replacement construction
  • Details: A detour via Kochstraße – Magdelstieg – Hornstraße is in place.
  • ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The pedestrian bridge is always open from Friday (2:30 p.m.) to Monday (7:00 a.m.).

Fritz-Reuter-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through October 21, 2026
  • Reason: Reconstruction of drinking water, stormwater, and electrical lines
  • Details: The construction project to reconstruct drinking water, stormwater, and electrical lines will be carried out in two phases. The first construction phase begins at Kronfeld Street and ends at Viktor-von-Scheffel Path. The second construction phase will take place from Viktor-von-Scheffel Path to Tatzend Promenade.

Wöllnitz Pedestrian Bridge

  • Type: Closure
  • Reason: Renovation of the Wöllnitz Pedestrian Bridge in the area of Stadtrodaer Straße
  • Details: Work is currently in the fourth construction phase. Pedestrian and bicycle traffic across the bridge is not possible. The closure to pedestrian and bicycle traffic across the bridge will remain in effect (approx. calendar week 33 through approx. calendar week 38).

Jenertal – Stadtrodaer Straße Bus Stop

  • Type: Closure of one lane
  • Location: – Stadtrodaer Straße
  • Duration: through August 14, 2026
  • Details: The bus stop will be out of service for the duration of construction. A temporary tram stop will be set up in the northbound/toward-downtown direction. Pedestrians will still be able to cross the street.

Knebelstraße in the direction of Fischergasse

  • Type: Closure of one side of the road
  • Duration: until approximately the end of October
  • Reason: Reconstruction of the track triangle on Knebelstraße
  • Details: Access to Kahlaische Straße will remain available. Traffic will be rerouted via Grietgasse toward Fischergasse / Löbdergraben. From the direction of Grietgasse, only the route toward Kahlaische Straße will be accessible.

Intersection of Kritzegraben / Thomas-Mann-Straße / St.-Jacob-Straße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through September 11, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work
  • Details: Drivers should take a wide detour around the full closure.

Lessingstraße between Fröbelstieg and Max-Wien-Platz

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: between Fröbelstieg and Max-Wien-Platz
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work and construction site traffic
  • Details: The construction site can be bypassed via Helmholtzweg and can also be driven around by car.

Mühlenstraße near house number 135

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Near house number 135
  • Duration: through August 28, 2026
  • Reason: Building renovation
  • Details: Traffic is being rerouted via Lichtenhainer Oberweg using traffic lights. Pedestrians and cyclists can safely pass through the construction zone.

Naumburger Straße from Rowena-Morse-Straße to the town limits

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: From Rowena-Morse-Straße to the town limits
  • Duration: through November 30, 2026
  • Reason: Construction of the new tram line to Jena Nord/Himmelreich
  • Details: The official detour runs via the L1070 through Trotz, Bürgel, and Wogau.

OBI Tunnel

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through October 31, 2026
  • Details: The detour via Spitzweidenweg and the Saalbahnhof Tunnel—which has been signposted since construction began—will remain in place until the end of the construction period.


Otto-Schott-Straße from Kronfeldstraße toward Schleidenstraße

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: From Kronfeldstraße toward Schleidenstraße
  • Duration: through November 20, 2026
  • Reason: District heating expansion
  • Details: Private vehicles will be rerouted via Magdelstieg.

Paradiesbrücke

  • Type: Complete closure of sidewalks
  • Duration: through October 15, 2026
  • Details: Pedestrians and cyclists will be routed via the adjacent sidewalk on Stadtrodaer Straße. During this time, Paradiesbahnhof can only be accessed via the sidewalk on Knebelstraße.

Saalbahnhofstraße between Bibliotheksweg and Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: between Bibliotheksweg and Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße
  • Duration: through August 21, 2026
  • Reason: Renovation of the tram tracks
  • Details: A detour via Am Anger will be signposted. Pedestrians can pass the construction site on the sidewalk.

Saalebrücke in Oberaue (near USV)

  • Type: Complete closure
  • Location: Near USV
  • Duration: through August 17, 2026
  • Details: A detour for pedestrians and cyclists will be signposted and routed via the Lichtenhainer Bridge.

St.-Jakob-Straße (southbound lane)

  • Type: Full closure
  • Duration: through December 31, 2026
  • Reason: Major roadwork
  • Details: Am Planetarium and Sophienstraße remain open to traffic.

Stauffenbergstraße, house numbers 1–13

  • Type: Temporary full closures
  • Duration: through September 25, 2026
  • Details: This will require temporary closures on Fritz-Ritter-Straße and Stauffenbergstraße. Traffic will be rerouted via the adjacent road network. Pedestrians can safely pass the construction site in the immediate vicinity.

Theobald-Renner-Straße

  • Duration: through October 2, 2026
  • Reason: Road resurfacing
  • Details: Traffic congestion is expected. Access to the swimming pool and the parking lot will be maintained at all times. Pedestrians can safely pass through the area.

Wenigenjenaer Ufer / Near the Am Ostbad Allotment Garden Association

  • Type: Full closure
  • Location: Near the Am Ostbad Allotment Garden Association
  • Duration: through August 31, 2026
  • Reason: Civil engineering work to expose and perform a technical inspection of the gas line (pressure test)
  • Details: A detour for pedestrians and cyclists is signposted.
